Turkey is a beautiful, geographically and culturally diverse country on the border of Europe and Asia. Many centuries of the history of this area and peoples living there are visible there at every step.
Among numerous historical attractions in Turkey, one of the largest is Efes – in the antiquity an important port city and vibrant shopping – financial centre, located in the west of the country in Izmir province, every year visited by millions of tourists from all over the world. The most famous monument that you can visit in Efes are the ruins of historical Temple of Artemis erected in the 6th century BC, deemed by the ancients as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. St. John and St. Paul lived and worked in Efes and its vicinity, and near – in Selcuk – there is the House of Mother Mary, a place where supposedly the mother of Jesus spent the last years of her life.
